We are happy! A romantic story by Vera

Vera, a friend of my sister, tells today about how she found her love online:

ukraine love storyWhen I first stared looking for a potential partner through a Ukrainian online dating agency I was a little apprehensive about what I was letting myself in for. I had heard countless stories of women like myself who had met men via such dating sites who later turned out to be nothing like the way they had portrayed themselves online. So when I first started communicating with John, my excitement at meeting him, was tempered with a considerable amount of concern.

What if John was not really who he said he was? What if he was not really a handsome, 28 year-old bachelor from Madison, Wisconsin but rather some pot-bellied, middle-aged married creep hitting on lonely, single Ukrainian women? What if he was not really an investment banker, but a short-order cook at a fast-food restaurant or worst of all, a convicted felon? After all it’s not very often that an American man comes looking for a partner at a Ukrainian online dating site. Then of course, there was also the broader question about just how long lasting an inter-cultural relationship between a Ukrainian woman and a Yank from the American Midwest would be.

So it was with considerable reservations that I accepted John’s invitation for us to meet, after we had communicated online for a few weeks. All I can say is that I am really glad I agreed to meet him. John turned out to be everything that I had hoped he would be, and a little bit more. He is genuine, sincere and caring and really seemed to want to learn more about me and my background. He doesn’t see our different cultures or my accent as something that separates us.

Rather he sees it as an opportunity for us to learn more about each other and broaden our horizons. Maybe, it’s because I’m so crazy about him, but in real-life John looks is even nicer than he appeared on his online profile and I don’t mean just his looks, or his smile. It’s been several months now since that first encounter and we haven’t looked back. I’ve moved in with John, and never have been happier. He’s even started to speak a little Ukrainian. Maybe one of these days he’s going to ask me to marry him, and I’m going to say Yes!
