I found my true love online
A romantic love story of Vera and Mark:
I can still remember how nervous I was when I put my profile on a site offering Ukrainian women for marriage. The idea of meeting someone over the Internet was strange to me. And what if I hated the men who wrote to me? Or even worse, what if no one wrote to me?
I shouldn’t have worried. I got lots of responses right away from friendly, interesting American men. And one of the first responses I got was from Mark. Right from the start I was fascinated by him. He was so different from the men I’d known in the Ukraine — more open, more humorous, more sophisticated. And in the same way, he was frustrated with American women and interested in learning about Ukrainian women for marriage. Within a week, we were writing back and forth to each other every day like old friends. I couldn’t wait to hear from him and learn everything about him.
Before I knew it, we were making plans for Mark to come to the Ukraine to meet me. I was worried again — even though we got along well over the Internet, real life is much different. But when Mark and I met, I knew right away that he was the one for me. We got even closer than we had in our e-mails, and every moment I spent with him was special. I didn’t want him to ever leave, and if that meant leaving the Ukraine to be with him, I knew I would do it.
It was one of the most wonderful days of my life when Mark came to my parents’ house to propose marriage. My father and mother were worried about letting me go to America, but they could see how excited I was about the idea. And they liked Mark a lot, and had heard enough about him from me to know that he was the only man for me.
While I was sad to leave my home in the Ukraine, I was thrilled to go to America and begin an all-new life with the man I loved.
